Meet the Team
Matthew Tinnel
DDS
Dr. Matthew Tinnel was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Olathe, Kansas. He earned a degree in genetics from the University of Kansas before attending law school and practicing medical malpractice defense. He then pursued dentistry at UMKC, graduating in 2010. Upon graduation, he completed a year of postgraduate General Practice Residency at Truman Medical Center in Lee’s Summit.
After completing his residency at Truman Medical Center, Dr. Tinnel worked in private practice for a few years before returning to Truman as the GPR Director in 2015. In this role, he taught and practiced various aspects of general dentistry, including oral surgery, implants, endodontics, and sedation. He left the director role in 2024 but continues to work with the residents and treat patients with special needs in the operating room.
Currently, Dr. Tinnel is proud to serve the Peculiar community at Peculiar Family Dental, where he enjoys working with patients of all ages. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys spending time with his wife Jenny (who is also a general dentist), home improvement, and watching his three sons play sports. Fun fact: he earned his private pilot’s license while in dental school.
